Position: Fire Protection Inspector I/II/III

Requirements: This is a developmental position established to provide for a period of growth across three position levels (Inspector I, II, and III). Depending upon the qualifications of the selected applicant, this position may be filled at the full performance level, or it may be filled as a trainee position.



As Trainee I:

• High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by college level course work in fire science, education, or a related field AND two years of general work experience.

• Skill in written and oral communication

• Ability to interpret data, information and documents

• Skill to analyze and solve problems

• Skill in math and mathematical reasoning

• Ability to observe and interpret situations and learn and apply new information or new skills

• Ability to prioritize tasks, work under deadlines with constant interruptions, and complete work assignments timely

• Skill in interacting with Presidio staff, tenants, and occasionally with other organizations

• Ability to skillfully deal with dissatisfied or difficult individuals.

• Must have good computer skills with basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, California State Fire Marshal’s Office Fire Inspector 1 OR International Fire Services Accreditation Council Fire Inspector 1 OR International Code Council Fire Inspector 1 certification within two years from date of employment.

• Valid California driver license

• Required to complete, at Trust expense, the following training courses within two years of appointment:

o California Fire Inspector 1A

o California Fire Inspector 1B

o California Fire Inspector 1C

o California Fire Inspector 1D

o Hazardous Materials First Responder – Awareness

o Fire Investigator 1A

o Fire Investigator 1B

o ICS-100 Introduction to Incident Command System

o ICS-200 Working efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System

o IS-700 Introduction to the National Incident Management System

o IS-800 Introduction to the concepts and principles of the National Response Framework

o ICS 300 Intermediate Incident Command System

o ICS 400 Advanced Incident Command System



As Trainee II:

Everything required of Trainee I, plus:

• At least one year of work experience in fire prevention or interpretation and enforcement of various codes.

• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of modern fire prevention and inspection

• Knowledge of fire safety codes

• Knowledge of fire cause

• Knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems and related electrical systems

• Possession of California State Fire Marshal’s Office Fire Inspector 1 OR International Fire Services Accreditation Council Fire Inspector 1 OR International Code Council Fire Inspector 1 certification.



At the Full Performance/III Level:

Everything required of Trainee I and II levels, plus:

• At least two years of work experience in fire prevention or interpretation and enforcement of various codes.

• Completion of the following training courses:

o California Fire Inspector 1A

o California Fire Inspector 1B

o California Fire Inspector 1C

o California Fire Inspector 1D

o Hazardous Materials First Responder – Awareness

o Fire Investigator 1A

o Fire Investigator 1B

o ICS-100 Introduction to Incident Command System

o ICS-200 Working efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System

o IS-700 Introduction to the National Incident Management System

o IS-800 Introduction to the concepts and principles of the National Response Framework

o ICS 300 Intermediate Incident Command System

o ICS 400 Advanced Incident Command System
