What are the minimum requirements to be a Firefighter? The requirements for entry level testing will vary for each department. The bare minimum requirement will always be 18 years of age, a high school diploma or GED equivalent & a valid drivers license. However, this minimum requirement is seen in only a small percentage of the departments. Many departments will require a Firefighter I certification and/or an EMT certificate in order to apply & be considered for employment.
